Above is a selection of photographs taken by James. They show various planes, even a captured German Fokker, plus pilots that flew with him. I couldn’t resist adding the photo of his dog Grenny. Being over 100 years old, they are not in the best condition, however they are very interesting. 

The DFC was awarded to James in December of 1918. This was a new medal brought about when the RAF was formed in 1918. By 1919 the medal had diagonal stripes. The above citation reads about his activities on November 9th 1918. This would have been moments after he received the head wound by the German in the church tower.
