I first met James when I was a young lad in the early 1970s. He was a good friend of my Grandmother and lived in Somerset. I remember him as being a gentle man, intelligent and very well spoken. He had old fashioned values and standards as you would expect from someone of his era.

With great foresight and luckily for us today, James was interviewed on two occasions about his involvement in the First World War, details of both interviews are contained in this website. David Lance of the Imperial War Museum conducted an audio recording, during which James shares many interesting and humorous memories. Secondly, Alex Revell interviewed James for the Cross and Cockade journal (Vol.4 No.3 1973). Details of this interview and some photographs supplied by James make an interesting read.

It is now over 100 years since the end of WW1 and the time that James’s service with the RFC/RAF came to an end. It is fitting that this website is created in memory of him and other brave men and woman who fought for our country.
